As we revisit the Life Sciences Industry Awards 2026, held on 28th May at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Biomimetic Innovations stands out as one of the evening's most compelling success stories, claiming both the Innovation of the Year - Small award and the Medtech Excellence Award for OsStic™, its first-in-class injectable bone bio-adhesive.
OsStic™ represents a genuine breakthrough in orthopaedic care. Developed by Biomimetic Innovations, an Irish MedTech company, it is designed to improve fracture repair and reduce reliance on metal hardware through a minimally invasive delivery approach grounded in biomimetic science. The product addresses a significant and longstanding challenge in orthopaedics: the need for a reliable, clinically effective adhesive that performs in the wet physiological environments that make conventional bonding approaches difficult. OsStic™ meets that challenge with both elegance and practicality, as the judging panel for the Innovation of the Year - Small category noted in citing its clear advantages over existing treatments.
The development journey behind OsStic™ was highlighted as a particular strength by the judges. Progressing from biomimetic research and academic collaboration through to preclinical validation and FDA Breakthrough Device Designation represents a rigorous and credible path to clinical relevance that relatively few Irish MedTech innovations achieve. A strategic licensing agreement with Sanara MedTech provides strong commercial validation alongside the scientific progress, confirming that OsStic™ is not just a research milestone but a commercially viable healthcare solution with real potential to scale.
The Medtech Excellence Award recognised a complementary dimension of the same innovation. Judges for this category highlighted the compelling nature of the unmet need of OsStic™ addresses in orthopaedics, noting its potential to expand meaningfully across both human and veterinary applications. The upcoming clinical trial was identified as the important next step in validating the real-world impact of a technology already generating significant interest across the life sciences and pharmaceutical innovation communities.
Together, the two awards reflect a company whose science is rigorous, whose commercial strategy is credible, and whose potential to improve patient outcomes across multiple areas of care is genuinely significant.
Stay tuned for the Life Sciences Industry Awards 2027 cycle, where Ireland's most innovative life sciences organisations will once again have the opportunity to be recognised.
