Brendan McGrath, Ireland Site Head and VP Manufacturing at WuXi Biologics Ireland Ltd, has been named recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award at the Life Sciences Industry Awards 2026, recognised for a career that spans electronics, aviation, and pharmaceuticals and that has culminated in one of the most significant contributions to Ireland's biopharmaceutical manufacturing landscape in recent years.

McGrath joined WuXi Biologics Ireland in March 2018 as its first employee in Ireland, establishing the legal entity and overseeing a greater than €700 million investment to build a state-of-the-art 47,000 square metre biopharmaceuticals manufacturing facility in Dundalk, Co. Louth. He led the project team from initial concept through design, construction, commissioning, qualification, and validation, delivering a facility that has since earned ISPE Global Facility of the Year recognition and ISO 50001, 14001, and 45001 certification, all in 2023.

Today, McGrath leads a team of more than 800 staff across all site functions and oversees end-to-end manufacturing operations in compliance with Health Authority licence regulations and WuXi's global standards. The site has received GMP certification from EMA, milestones that reflect the rigour of the operation he has built. Under his leadership, a sustainability programme has reduced energy consumption and water usage by 15% and eliminated Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

His contribution extends beyond the facility itself. As a board member of both WuXi Biologics Ireland Ltd and WuXi Vaccines Ireland Ltd, and through inter-site collaboration initiatives driving best practice sharing across the global network, McGrath has helped embed WuXi Biologics as a cornerstone of Ireland's life sciences sector.

The Life Sciences Industry Awards 2026 gala will take place on 28 May 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry.
