Crystal Pharmatech has become the first company in both China and the Asia-Pacific region to deploy a dedicated Microcrystal Electron Diffraction platform for industrial pharmaceutical applications, following the introduction of the ELDICO ED-1 electron diffractometer at its Suzhou, China research and development site, according to Crystal Pharmatech.

The science-driven contract research and development and manufacturing organisation, which operates across the United States, Canada, and China, announced the deployment as part of an expanded strategic collaboration with Swiss instrumentation company ELDICO Scientific AG.

Unlike conventional approaches that rely on adapted transmission electron microscopes, the ELDICO ED-1 is purpose-built to determine crystal structures directly from sub-micron crystalline powders for small-molecule compounds. The system supports automated, 24/7 operation with streamlined data acquisition and high reproducibility, transforming MicroED from a specialist technique into a scalable, high-throughput analytical platform for routine industrial workflows.

The deployment strengthens Crystal Pharmatech's capabilities across polymorph screening, crystal structure determination, amorphous solid dispersion characterisation, and accelerated preformulation and formulation development for pharmaceutical clients worldwide.
