FedEx has launched a dedicated life sciences organisation to strengthen its pharmaceutical logistics capabilities, supporting the growing demand for specialised transport services for medicines, biologics, medical devices and clinical trial materials.

According to Air Cargo News, the newly established FedEx Life Sciences organisation brings together the company's global logistics network, healthcare specialists and advanced shipment monitoring technologies to provide end-to-end support for pharmaceutical and life sciences customers. The initiative is designed to address the increasing complexity of transporting time and temperature-sensitive healthcare products across global supply chains.

The launch reflects continued growth in the pharmaceutical logistics sector as more medicines become specialised, requiring greater visibility, compliance and temperature control throughout the distribution process. FedEx said the new organisation will support shipments ranging from pharmaceuticals and biologics to clinical trial materials and medical devices, helping healthcare companies maintain product integrity while delivering treatments to patients worldwide.

As part of the announcement, FedEx appointed Nick Gennari as President of Healthcare and Life Sciences. Gennari has been with the company for more than 30 years and has led strategic sales and supply chain solutions for healthcare, aerospace and technology customers. FedEx said his leadership has helped grow its global healthcare business to approximately US$10 billion in revenue.

The launch builds on recent investments in healthcare logistics infrastructure and quality standards. In 2025, FedEx achieved the International Air Transport Association's Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) Pharma certification for its pharmaceutical logistics operations, reinforcing its compliance with recognised industry standards for handling temperature-sensitive medicines.

The company has also expanded its specialist healthcare network to six life sciences centres worldwide and strengthened connectivity between major pharmaceutical manufacturing locations. This includes the direct Indianapolis to Dublin air service introduced in 2025, linking two internationally significant pharmaceutical hubs and supporting the movement of healthcare products between North America and Ireland.

FedEx said its life sciences offering is further supported by its FedEx Surround monitoring platform, which uses machine learning to provide real-time shipment visibility, identify potential disruptions and enable proactive intervention when handling critical healthcare products.

The launch highlights continued investment in pharmaceutical supply chains as logistics providers expand specialised capabilities to support the safe, compliant and reliable distribution of medicines across increasingly complex global healthcare networks.
