GEODIS has opened a new temperature controlled pharmaceutical logistics facility in Manchester, expanding its cold chain capacity to support healthcare customers across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
According to BBN, the new warehouse became operational on 1 June and provides approximately 2,000 pallet positions for pharmaceutical and healthcare products requiring controlled storage and distribution. The facility supports inventory management, short-term storage, returns handling and cross-docking operations for medicines and other temperature-sensitive products.
Strategically located close to Manchester Airport and the M6 and M62 motorway corridors, the site strengthens GEODIS' distribution network by combining international air freight connectivity with efficient road access across Britain and Ireland. The location is intended to improve supply chain flexibility for pharmaceutical manufacturers, biotechnology companies and healthcare organisations requiring reliable cold chain logistics.
The facility includes controlled room temperature storage maintained between 15°C and 25°C, alongside chilled storage operating between 2°C and 8°C. GEODIS also confirmed that frozen storage capacity can be introduced to meet future customer requirements.
The warehouse has been developed to meet Good Distribution Practice (GDP) requirements and holds Wholesale Distribution Authorisation for pharmaceutical operations. The site also complies with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 standards, in addition to Authorised Economic Operator and Transported Asset Protection Association requirements.
Operations are supported by a validated warehouse management system providing barcode scanning, batch traceability, audit trails and real-time inventory visibility. These capabilities are designed to help pharmaceutical companies maintain product integrity and regulatory compliance throughout the distribution process.
Paul Morris, Head of Pharma and Healthcare for GEODIS UK, said the investment strengthens the company's ability to deliver reliable end-to-end logistics solutions for temperature-sensitive healthcare products. He added that the combination of compliance standards, continuous monitoring systems and transport connectivity will support customers seeking scalable pharmaceutical logistics services.
The opening reflects continued investment in pharmaceutical supply chain infrastructure as healthcare organisations place increasing emphasis on temperature-controlled storage, regulatory compliance and resilient distribution networks. By expanding its specialist logistics capability in Manchester, GEODIS enhances cold chain capacity for the UK and Ireland while supporting the growing demand for secure, compliant handling of medicines and healthcare products.
