BioPharmaChem Ireland, the Ibec group representing the biopharmaceutical and chemical sectors in Ireland, has elected Tim Shanahan, Vice President of External Manufacturing Operations at Ipsen, as its new chairperson, according to Business Eye.

Shanahan succeeds outgoing chair Joyce Fitzharris, president of SK pharmteco, Small Molecule, Europe, taking on the role at a period of strategic significance for Ireland's life sciences sector.

Tim Shanahan said: "It is a huge honour to be appointed chair of BioPharmaChem Ireland at an important time for our industry, not just in Ireland, but across the European Union. As Ireland prepares for its Presidency of the Council of the European Union, there is a real opportunity to strengthen Europe's competitiveness in life sciences, from securing resilient supply chains and advancing innovation, to ensuring the right policy environment for continued investment in manufacturing and R&D."

Shanahan identified Ireland's upcoming EU Council Presidency as a key opportunity to advance life sciences policy priorities at a European level, including supply chain resilience, innovation investment, and manufacturing competitiveness.

BioPharmaChem Ireland represents companies across the biopharmaceutical and chemical sectors, advocating on policy, regulatory, and competitiveness issues affecting the industry. Ireland is home to a significant concentration of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers, making the sector a critical component of the national economy.

Shanahan added that he looks forward to working with members and stakeholders to ensure Ireland remains a leading global location for the development and supply of medicines.
