Woodberry Packaging has acquired Medica Packaging and F.G. Curtis, expanding its pharmaceutical packaging capabilities and strengthening its presence across the UK and Ireland.

Packaging Insights states that the two businesses will continue operating under their existing brands and management teams, ensuring continuity for employees, customers and supplier relationships while becoming part of the wider Woodberry Packaging Group.

The acquisition brings together specialist expertise in pharmaceutical, healthcare and personal care packaging, with Medica recognised for its focus on pharmaceutical carton manufacturing and regulated healthcare packaging.

Following the transaction, the enlarged group employs around 650 people across the UK and Ireland and has a combined annual turnover exceeding €120 million.

Woodberry Packaging said the acquisition forms part of its long-term strategy to build a stronger packaging group across Europe by investing in established businesses and expanding manufacturing capability. The addition of Medica and F.G. Curtis also strengthens the group's production network and broadens its expertise in regulated packaging markets.

The acquisition gives the group three PS 9000-accredited carton manufacturing facilities in the UK, the recognised quality standard for pharmaceutical packaging, while its Irish business, Colorman, is progressing towards the same accreditation.

According to the company, the expanded manufacturing footprint enables the group to offer customers a single accredited packaging partner with enhanced security of supply, an increasingly important requirement across regulated pharmaceutical markets.

Gerard Harford, Managing Director of Medica, said joining the wider Woodberry Packaging Group provides greater scale and investment while maintaining the quality, compliance and supply reliability that pharmaceutical customers expect.

The acquisition reflects continued investment in pharmaceutical packaging infrastructure as manufacturers strengthen production capability, quality assurance and resilient supply chains to support the evolving needs of the healthcare sector.
